Guitar lessons
Guitar is a great instrument to learn! It's small, portable, and fun to play. It's an easy instrument to learn yet provides a lifetime of opportunity to master.
Contact me to begin or continue your guitar journey with a lesson plan that you and I will design together to meet your music needs. My teaching emphasis is "Applied Playing." For the beginner, that means learning chords and songs right away. We'll learn how to make and read chord charts so you can write chord progressions and even play songs by your favorite artists. Making guitar fun and practical like this right away helps keep your interest high and makes you want to play more.
For the intermediate and advanced musician, where we go is based on what you already know and what you want to do with your music. We can learn bar chords, blues chords, or jazz voicings. We can learn scales and start to improvise. We can do more note reading. Or we can focus on learning more songs or songwriting. We can also learn about performing in front of others. It's up to you! My lesson rates are practical and competitive, and consider the student's ability-to-pay. Please use the Contact page to reach out for lessons. I also teach Bass Guitar. |
songwriting lessons
Have you always had a song in your head, or in your heart? Or melodies that you love to hum? Or words and phrases that pop up and capture your insights, questions, and life lessons? If so, you're probably a songwriter!
Reach out on the Contact page to get started! For the beginner, we'll learn the basics of songwriting, from good practices for capturing your ideas to writing out that final chord chart. We'll learn exercises for stimulating your lyric writing. And we'll learn about chord theory so you'll always have enough ideas about where your song can go. For the intermediate and advanced musician, where we go is based on what you already know and what you want to do with your songwriting. We can learn different song forms, rhythms, passing chords, and many kinds of songwriting techniques. We can learn about many forms of lyric writing and make sure that you always have enough ways to generate and refine your lyrics. We can learn and play different songs by songwriters from The American Songbook era, or from great new Contemporary Folk and Americana artists. Most importantly, we'll focus on creativity and knowing when to use music theory and when to just follow the song!
